About us
I started paddling back in 2003 after allowing our neighbor to convince me to take the his "Introduction to Kayaking" course that he was teaching at Orange Coast College (Held at the Newport Aquatic Center). Needless to say I enjoyed it so much, Debbie had to take the class to keep me involved. She figured that since I liked kayaking so much, she wanted to get into the sport so I would not decide that it was too expensive and take too much time away from us being together etc. that I would quit. Well she was right, I most likely would have because it was a "for me" thing and not for her or for both of us.
So it was a good thing that even though she fell into the water twice that first day of class, she fortunately liked it too. So much so that she decided to get her own boat a few months later. Not to be out done, I got one too. This is where the "It's Danny's Fault" line was born. Danny being our neighbor and instructor at OCC whom introduced us to the wonderful activity of paddling.
In early 2004, I made the very fateful decision to volunteer for the Membership Coordinator position with California Kayak Friends. This association has allowed Debbie and myself to meet the most eclectic and greatest bunch of individuals. We now our acquainted hundreds of individuals who live and enjoy the paddling lifestyle.
